A Weekend of Freedom

Yes, we are married and living with my parents. I know. Welcome to marital bliss.

I am thrilled that we are FINALLY having a weekend away together. I can’t say ‘finally,’ I suppose, since we did have our entire honeymoon.

After work today, we’ll be heading out to the desert for a weekend of sunshine and relaxation – and best of all – just us! Most of anything, I’m looking forward to being able to do what we want and when we want. If we want to eat dinner at 4:00 p.m., so be it! If we want to stay in bed all day, so be it!

I love my folks dearly, but I miss the independence that we once had so dearly. The last time I lived under my parents roof was in 2003. And then it was just me. Now it’s me + husband. It’s a full house, we have, in their 2-bedroom townhouse.

Now, just a few more hours ‘til we’re home free!

It's the World Series?

Scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed, I see a post from my sorority about the World Series.

World Series? What? Hasn’t that already happened? Followed by a look at my diary, no, it hasn’t. It’s only mid-October now.

How is it that – of all places – I find out about the World Series from my sorority’s Facebook page? (Better yet, I’m still ‘friends’ with my sorority four years after college?)

Formerly an avid fan of a certain AL team, I’m still shocked and puzzled at the fact that I had no idea it was still baseball season. It’s not like I’ve been hiding under a rock the past few months. Or have I? I’d like to think I’m a fairly well informed individual – I watch the nightly news, most evenings, and I’ve taken to reading Google News every morning. It might be that I’ve never conveniently clicked on the Sports link.

Regardless, in years past, even when living abroad, I am convinced I knew more about the Series than I do now. Texas and… right, I had to research it just now – St. Louis – no, not teams I would ever think to watch. Where’s the East Coast power? Where’s the West Coast pride? AOL cites several reasons to watch… though I’m not convinced. Are you?
